Core Concepts

What is Blockchain?

A blockchain is a shared digital ledger that records transactions across many computers. Once data is recorded, it cannot be changed without changing every copy, making it nearly tamper-proof.

Think of it like a shared document that everyone can see, but nobody can secretly edit past entries.

Bitcoin vs Ethereum

₿ BITCOIN

  • • Digital gold / store of value
  • • Fixed supply: 21 million
  • • Oldest & most trusted crypto
  • • Slower transaction speed

Ξ ETHEREUM

  • • Programmable blockchain
  • • Powers DeFi & smart contracts
  • • No fixed supply cap
  • • Faster, more versatile

What is a Stablecoin?

A stablecoin maintains a stable value, usually pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. Some use stablecoins as a high-yield savings alternative through DeFi protocols. However, stablecoins are NOT FDIC insured.

Stablecoins can lose their peg. TerraUST collapsed in 2022, losing nearly all value. Always research the backing mechanism.
